  6. Take 1 tablespoons coriander, roasted
  7. Make ready 1/4 teaspoons cumin, roasted
  8. Get 1 teaspoon peppercorns
  9. Get 4 cloves garlic
  10. Make ready 3 red chilies

The popularity of satay resulted in a number of varieties of the dish. In Indonesia, it has become a national dish and nowadays it can be found everywhere, from street vendors to high-class restaurants. Chicken meat is marinated with sweet soy sauce and shrimp paste and then threaded to bamboo skewers and grilled to perfection and serve with sweet sauce. Sate babi, or pork satay, is the first satay that I was introduced to.

Steps to make Sweet satay (sate manis):
  1. Mix and knead beef or lamb or pork with ground spices, lime juice, sweet soy sauce and oil. Let the mixture stand at least 15 minutes.
  2. Thread 4-5 pieces meet onto a skewer, brush it with remaining marinade and grill until golden brown.
  3. Serve with sweet soy sauce or peanut sauce, or both.
  4. For the Sweet soy sauce : - Grind 10 (optional) bird's eye chilli with 3 shallots and combine with 3 tablespoons sweet soy sauce.
  5. For the Peanut butter sauce : - Grind 2 red chilli with 100 gram roasted or fried peanuts. Add 100 cc watter and stir well.

There was this one lovely lady who went door to door selling pork satay when we were young, and me and my brothers would be really happy when my grandparents bought a portion for our lunch. Even though it was ages and ages ago. Saté is Indonesian for a grilled skewer of meat or seafood. Popular versions are chicken and goat.
